Getting my lens cleaned, aka PRK surgery

So as much as this blog is about film, pics, and tech, we always forget that our eyes are the lens to the camera of life. Mine haven't been the best; not sure if i can attribute my nearsightedness to my forehead impact 24 years ago that resulted in 20+ stitches. Or maybe it was the hours of gaming. Either way, I foolishly funded an HSA account without looking at my schedule of 2012 and now here it is, almost November.

The time to pull the trigger on my Lasik surgery is upon me.

My consultation yielded that i'm not a candidate for Lasik due to my bad vision (think 900 to 1000 on a 20/20 scale) and my corneas are too think. PRK (Photorefractive keratectomy) surgery was my only other option besides surgical contact lenses. My friend Adam had gotten PRK because of his MMA training and the less likely chance a headshot would knock the flap loose (LASIK creates a flap on your cornea to correct your vision). The problem was with my meticulous schedule for the remainder of 2012, and how to time recovery (20 days to a few months) with what i had to complete for the remainder of the year.

At the moment, it's pending post-Thanksgiving. I'll probably be on sick leave for the beginning of my recovery, but my goal is to isolate my eyes and let them recover the fastest possible. A few blogs have updated their recovery process, so i'll do one as well.

I'll have to depart with my beloved Oakley prescription sunglasses, which have served its expensive purpose for a good transition-lens replacement. Perhaps i'll re-purpose both my frames into hipster lenses, just for old times sake...

2012 Hong Kong Trip Summary - Hot, Humid, and Hangry

So after spending an empty weekend editing the 35GB worth of photos and videos, I've finally finished my summary video for the July trip to Hong Kong. Yes, the original teaser said August but I four weeks (a wedding and a retreat taking up two of those weekends) flew by too quickly.

new blog format

I've realized that this blog hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, so i'll keep the formatting as follows:

- as many random entries as possible. usually stuff i post on fb that i say i'll post here, but i don't. some film reviews, links, but mainly random stuff.

- one major post a month, guaranteed  beit a video i've edited, tips, reviews, anything. i figure i owe it to the 3 people that read this thing anyways.

so yeah, september was pretty empty despite a trip to hawaii and a san francisco dragonboat race. but i spent last weekend re-learning Sony Vegas and a few other tools it offered. the Hong Kong trip has been 97% edited, with some last minute tweaks tonight. look for a post sometime October!
